The Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Marc Tardue, Đelo Jusić, Đani Stipaničev, Stijepo Gleđ Markos, Marija Kuhar Šoša, Maja Grgić, Klapa Ragusa, Klapa Subrenum, Klapa Kaše and the Dapal Band will appear in a concert on Friday, 22 December, beginning at 8.00 pm at the Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel, as announced on today's press conference held at Luža.
The 4th Dubrovnik Winter Festival's holiday atmosphere will be enhanced by a special music event – the Dubrovnik Christmas concert organised by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the City of Dubrovnik and the Valamar Hotels. The concert will be held on Friday, 22 December, at the Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel at 8.00 pm. Jelka Tepšić, Deputy Mayor of Dubrovnik, presented the concept of Dubrovnik's gala Christmas concert, while the programme was presented by Damir Milat, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra Director, and Conductors Đelo Jusić and Marc Tardue.
The internationally renowned American conductor of Italian and French descent, Marc Tardue, has conducted the world's leading orchestras. He has won a large number of prizes, including the prestigious Chevalier des Arts et Lettres awarded by the French government, and the Medal for Merit to Culture one of the major decorations in Portugal. The orchestra will also appear under the baton of the Dubrovnnik-based composer, conductor, and author of many popular songs, Đelo Jusić. In addition to his numerousaccolades, Maestro Jusić has recently been appointed a member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Academy of Science and Art.
The performers will include tenors Đani Stipaničev and Stijepo Gleđ Markos; the award-winning soprano Marija Kuhar Šoša, who also appeared in this year's Dubrovnik Summer Festival opera production of Orlando; Maja Grgić, the famous Dubrovk jazz singer, Klapa Ragusa, Klapa Subrenum and Klapa Kaše, who celebrate their major anniversaries this year; and the Dapal Band consisting of young musicians from Lapad. Mrs. Maja Nodari will enhance the concert programme with her short stories about Christmas in the City. The programme prepared for Dubrovnik audience consists of popular Christmas songs such as Bijeli Božić, Božić u Gradu, Kolenda iz Rijeke dubrovačke, Ave Maria, Tiha noć, Radujte se narodi and Narodi nam se Kralj nebeski, as well as arrangements of famous pop songs Merry Christmas Everyone, Santa Baby and Hallelujah, to name but a few.
